It is amazing what you find if you just look….

It is amazing what you find if you just look. I was out walking Dhugal, my greyhound, a few weeks ago and we were wandering around one of the gardens that overlook the River Murray. The path edge is lined with large sandstone rocks that on closer inspection contain fossils of shells and sea creatures. These rocks had been quarried on the eastern side of the river along the cliff face and the Sunnyside Quarry back in the 1880’s and were used to build some of the major buildings in Adelaide such as the cathedral.

Within these rocks you can see layers of an ancient seabed crammed packed with tiny shells, sea urchins and remnants of lacy coral as well as larger shells that might be scallops or oysters millions of years old and found in a town garden, if you just look.

Taken with my Pentax X90 on macro 1cm setting.

  1. Fascinating series of photos. Must have been fun to explore this location with Dhugal.

  2. Love the macro shots of the sea creatures, dirt and rocks. People often walk right over or past some of nature’s most beautiful details!
